SURGERY - GENERAL

Surgery (from the Greek cheirourgia meaning "hand work") is the medical specialty that treats diseases or injuries by operative manual and instrumental treatment. A surgery can also refer to the place where surgery is performed, or simply the office of a physician, dentist, or veterinarian.

SURGERY - ORAL

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a recognized international training course in specialised Medicine, which requires a minimum length of formation of 5 years for a basic medical training and 4 years for a basic medical and dental training, in the European Union, and one of the 9 dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association in the U.S.A. .

SURGERY - PLASTIC

Plastic surgery is a general term for operative manual and instrumental treatment which is performed for functional or aesthetic reasons. The word "plastic" derives from the Greek plastikos meaning to mold or to shape; its use here is not connected with modern plastics.

SURGERY - RECONSTRUCTIVE

Reconstructive surgery is in its broadest sense the use of surgery to reconstruct damaged or malformed tissues or organs. Although plastic surgery is involved in some aspects of reconstructive surgery there are other branches of surgery whose main aim is reconstruction of a more normal part of the body. This contrasts with the main alternative type of surgery in which something is removed - for example an inflammed appendix.

TRAUMA

Physical trauma, an often serious and body-altering physical injury, such as the removal of a limb. Psychological trauma, an emotional or psychological injury, usually resulting from an extremely stressful, life-threatening, or spirit-murdering situations.
