My consulting firm provides services to customs brokers, transportation companies, freight forwarders, importers, and exporters in the areas of foreign trade and transportation. Director, Import Operations February 1976 to January 1984
I had complete responsibility for operations and profitability for what grew to be twenty-five profit centers with over five hundred employees throughout the United States. These centers provided services in Customs brokerage, freight-forwarding, warehousing and distribution as well as various consolidation services. My responsibilities included all personnel matters, compliance, staffing, fees, employee development and education, internal audits, assistance with obtaining new business, planning and budgeting, account retention and development, as well as development of a data processing system for Import Operations. For several years, I also had responsibility for all company credit and collections as well as internal audits and reviews.

Supervisor of Special Projects Los Angeles-1971 and San Francisco-1972 to 1976
I set up and conducted corporate internal audits for import, export, and accounting. I made recommendations in regard to office operations, set up major new accounts for import, assisted problem offices, and monitored credit and collections and developed company credit and collection policies. On two occasions, I ran the U.S. portion of inbound NVO which included documentation and transportation of goods within the United States. I was also the key interface on the development of the second generation import data processing system and the company trouble shooter in many areas.

Ocean Import Manager Houston, TX-1968 to 1970
I managed an import department which previously had never realized a profit. Upon my departure to Los Angeles, the department operated efficiently and profitably; business and revenue more doubled and there were thirteen employees in the department.

Import Manager Denver, CO -1966 to 1968
Upon my arrival in late October 1966, I ran a one-person import department that did not have sufficient revenue to cover my salary. Within six months, the office was profitable and when I departed to Houston in October 1968, there were six employees performing import functions. My responsibilities included all import work, sales, hiring, credit and collections, and managed office in the Station Mangers absence.

Import Clerk- Los Angeles, CA-1962 to 1963 and 1965 to 1966 (U.S. Army, 1963-1965)
I started as the floor man and eventually handled liquidations, appraisements, document production, classifying, billing, traffic, secretarial, and any other task that was required in the ocean import department.

OTHER EXPERIENCE:
San Francisco Civil Grand Jury
The civil grand jury investigated the operations of various municipal agencies and prepared reports with findings and recommendations.

RELATED ACTIVITIES:
Chair of the ABI Committee, National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America
I was the first chair of this committee that was formed to evaluate an ABI test program initiated in Baltimore and Philadelphia. The committee prepared a written report to the Association for approval and then we made written recommendations to the Commissioner of Customs. We worked with Customs to develop and implement ABI.

Member of the Customs Committee, National Custom Brokers and Forwarders Association of America
The committee met regularly in Washington, D.C. with the Commissioner of Customs and other key Customs personnel regarding the relationship between Customs, brokers, and importers and to discuss areas in which mutually beneficial changes and improvements could be made.
