IV RESEARCH INTERESTS
Modern techniques in chromatography for trace organic analysis, i.e. extremely inert GC and GC/MS systems for femtogram levels of explosives, pesticides, biogenic amines, and environmental compounds; water and food products; head space GC for volatiles in polymers, foods and beverages, raw materials, printing inks; trace analysis by HPLC and LC/MS. Development of improved sample preparation techniques included SPME, microwave, and SPME.
V. ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Over 140 technical papers, 17 chapters, 5 books, 15 book reviews, 10 audio tapes, 4 movies, 12 video tapes all published in the field of chromatography. Over 50 students have completed theses under his supervision. External funding exceeds $1 million over past 5 years. Have introduced 6 ACS short courses and taught over 150 sessions in the last 25 years.
VI TEACHING
Actively teach both undergraduate (general chemistry and instrumental methods) and graduate courses (advanced analytical, HPLC and GC/MS).
