I have practiced, managed, or consulted in long term care since 1978, and served as an expert witness and legal resource since 1993.
My long term care background ranges from high school experiences as a nurses aide, to post-college roles as a licensed administrator, multi-facility management, consulting, staff education, and facility ownership. Most of my career has been devoted to helping facilities in financial and / or regulatory peril through out the United States. I have experienced caregiving at its brightest and darkest hours during my consulting and turnaround travels. My multi-state roles include receivership, temporary management, and monitoring appointments for the State of Michigan. I also served as a nursing home expert for the State of Indiana, Office of the Attorney General, to evaluate the competency of nursing home administrators under review for receiving substandard quality of care violations.
I have extensive facility operations experience, including senior management positions with long term care organizations which owned and operated nursing and assisted living facilities. My current teaching pursuits include an active website and corporate / public seminars.
I am qualified to serve as an expert witness and legal consultant based on my extensive long term care management expertise, knowledge of long term care regulations, long term care standards of care / standards of management practice, extensive exposure to circumstances involving resident abuse / neglect, practical hands-on caregiving experience, and providing care to family members in facilities I managed.
I have reviewed cases in 35+ states involving nursing homes, assisted living facilities, ICF-MR facilities, group homes for the developmentally disabled, foster care, and home health care. My testimony includes 7 court appearances, and 25+ depositions. I review cases for the plaintiff and defense.
