Claim Manager - 1998 - 2004

Responsible for all operations of the department. Department members investigate, evaluate and dispose of equine mortality and medical claims with a value in excess of $20 million per year. Claim staff is comprised of 10 experienced adjusters, three clerical personnel and three supervisors. Barbaro was one of our insured horses.

Unit Manager - Claim Department, 1996 - 1997

Responsible for directing all operations of a claims unit which investigated, evaluated and resolved an inventory of 1,500 claims with a value of $17 million, with a staff of 35.

  • Developed and implemented Litigation Management Program to monitor and control legal expenses incurred in the processing of claims. Resulted in a 6% reduction in legal expenses.
  • Implemented Preferred Vendor Network to provide prompt and cost-effective resolution of real property claims. Significantly improved customer service and reduced payouts.
  • Developed and introduced use of preferred provider body shops to facilitate repairs resulting from auto claims. Results included reduction of claims dollars paid out, quicker repairs, and increased customer satisfaction.

Aetna Life and Casualty - 1966 to 1996

Quality Assurance Analyst - Claim Department , 1994 - 1996

Responsible for the quality and accuracy of all claims processed in the Tampa Claims Service Center.

  • Analyzed claim results and controls for timelines, accuracy, expense control, and quality of disposition. Provided feedback and recommendations for improvements to team leaders and management, resulting in strengthened claim handling and quality.
  • Served as Field Office Performance Evaluator and made recommendations for improvements in claims processing in Claim Service Centers throughout the Southeast.
  • Coordinated and delivered all training needed to implement new claim evaluation system. (COLOSSUS) As Head Trainer, trained 70 claim handlers in effective use of system.

Assistant Manager - Claim Department , Jacksonville, Florida, 1991 - 1994

Responsible for processing of liability, property and workers' compensation claims in the Jacksonville and Orlando claim offices.

  • Reviewed claim files, made recommendations to supervisors for improved processing and coached claim processors in proper procedures, resulting in a 33% improvement in quality and accuracy of claims paid.
  • Assisted in development and managing of $5 million department budget. Department consistently achieved operating goals within or below budget.
  • Established strong working relationships with other operating departments, resulting in improved communications, more accurate claims processing and improved customer satisfaction.

Supervisor - Claims Department , Jacksonville, Florida, 1985 - 1991

Responsible for investigation, evaluation and disposition of real property and liability claims.

  • Hired, trained and developed Commercial Property Claims staff. Results included improved accuracy in coverage determination and claim dollars paid as well as significantly improved customer satisfaction. Property Claim staff was formally recognized as "Outstanding Unit" in the country.
  • Served as Subrogation Coordinator in recovering from other insurance carriers, dollars paid to our customers. Consistently exceeded recovery goals by 25%.

Held various claims and supervisory positions, including Senior Claim Representative, General Adjuster, and Property Unit Supervisor, within the Claims Department of Aetna, First Floridian and its predecessor companies.
