Dr. Sam Morhaim, a local resident of East Setauket, New York, was recently awarded the distinction of Diplomate by the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (I.C.O.I)- one of the most respected professional dental organizations in the world. The elevation to Diplomate status is the highest honor a professional society, such as the I.C.O.I., can bestow on a dental professional. Less than four percent of all current I.C.O.I. members in over eighty countries have reached this level of achievement. Such candidates are chosen from amongst those who have most significantly contributed to the art and science of Oral Implantology, by demonstrating an in-depth scientific knowledge and clinical proficiency.
The I.C.O.I. is not only the world's largest implant organization, but it also provides the highest level of continuing education to its professional members. It has hosted more than one hundred and ten symposia in thirty countries, educating in excess of fifty thousand practitioners and their teams. It has published more than a thousand articles in its journals (with abstracts in four languages), and supported more than forty research and educational projects since 1972.
Dr. Sam Morhaim is a graduate of Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, which was followed by a residency training program in Restorative Dentistry at The Long Island College Hospital in New York. His training in Periodontics and Oral Implantology was completed at Boston University. Shortly after his graduation, he volunteered his time teaching dental residents at the Flushing Hospital Medical Center where he held the title of Clinical Director of Periodontics and Oral Implantology.
Dr. Morhaim also remains an active member in many professional dental organizations such as The American Dental Association, The American Academy of Periodontology, The Northeast Society of Periodontics, and the Nassau County Dental Society. He has been a frequently invited guest speaker on the live radio talk show "Dentistry Today," hosted by Harvey Leonard, one of America's longest running dental talk programs.
Presently, Dr. Morhaim is a partner in a large multi-specialty group dental practice with locations in Bayside and Hicksville, New York. His primary focus is an interdisciplinary approach to treating patients, with emphasis on strong communication between specialists, generalists and other team members. Also, by regularly attending continuing education courses, he is able to provide the latest and most advanced techniques in implant dentistry to his patients.
Despite a demanding work schedule, Dr. Morhaim enjoys spending time with his family, and regularly attends his children's sporting events. He currently resides in East Setauket with his wife, Anita and two boys, Alex and Daniel.
