Maritime safety instructor and consultant in injury prevention, industrial safety aboard ships, survival at sea, marlinspike seamanship, boat handling, personal safety & social responsibility, firefighting, flooding, man overboard, written safety and facility evacuation plans, audits of uninspected vessels and marine terminals, and advisor to the legal community.

Compliance Associate for a Coast Guard contractor. Making technical visits to over 140 boat manufacturers in Pacific NW. Examining boats for compliance with fuel, electrical & ventilation systems for gasoline-powered boats, persons & maximum weight capacity for small boats, navigation lights, marine sanitation devices.

Current USCG Auxiliary Coxswain and Instructor for boating safety classes to the public. Member Training Officer for local Auxiliary flotilla of 40+ members. Completed courses of instruction in boat handling, advanced coastal navigation and weather (Fall 2004).

Director of Safety & Environmental Affairs for the Tyson Seafood Group (formerly Arctic Alaska Fisheries Corporation). Responsible for safety & health of approximately 1200 employees in over 35 locations in remote Alaska, Washington, Oregon and Minnesota. Authored corporate safety manual including policies and plans for HAZCOM, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hearing protection, bloodborne pathogens, material safety data sheets, emergency evacuation and fire safety. Developed comprehensive check lists for use by own staff and facility leaders.

Developed and environmental program including hazardous waste awareness program. Responsible for a 50% reduction over the first two years by substituting green products, standardizing chemicals and training in proper waste disposal procedures. Supervised the administration of the EPA NPDES system.

Started a corporate ergonomics program. Coordinated ergonomics training for management and supervisors. Conducted job safety analysis of at risk positions and recommended production and job site changes. Key participant in a joint Industry/OSHA ergonomics study of the fishing industry.

Supervised development of an Oil Pollution Contingency Plan for Washington State. Participated in selection of a prime contractor and acted as person in charge of over 30 oil spills. Master of a cleanup vessel chartered during the Exxon oil spill. Authored the USCG Oil Pollution Plan for the Tyson fleet.
