Short Biography:
I am a 1964 graduate of Dartmouth College.
From 1964 to 1976, I was with Monarch Life Insurance Company in Springfield, Massachusetts as a medical and disability insurance underwriter.
In 1976, I joined North American Reassurance Company (Swiss Re) in New York, New York, in the Disability Underwriting Department, where I participated in writing and editing that companys Guide to Health Underwriting, trained new disability underwriters, reviewed the disability underwriting guidelines of client companies.
From 1980 through 1999, I was with Maccabees Mutual Life Insurance Company in Southfield, Michigan (later Royal Maccabees). I managed the disability underwriting and policyowner service departments; authored the companys disability underwriting financial, medical and occupation guidelines; participated in the product development process; developed education programs for the underwriting staff and the sales force; reviewed contestable claims, conducted claim audits and sat on claims review committees.
Since July of 1999, I have been working independently with law firms representing both insurance companies and plaintiffs in individual disability insurance cases in litigation. I have served both as expert witness and as consultant.
I have been asked to speak at industry meetings and seminars, including the Michigan Home Office Underwriters Association, the Disability Income Training Council and the Health Insurance Association of America. My latest periodical publication was "Notes on Some Disability Underwriting Topics" in the Winter 1993 issue of Focus: A Quarterly Digest of Insurance & Financial Planning Strategies (American Society of CLU & ChFC).
