MEDICAL OR NURSING MALPRACTICE
A nurse who has absolute command of a clinical area generally knows whether the physician care meets the standards. Diagnostic and treatment protocols are changing so rapidly that only someone who is active in that specialty really knows current standards. A physician will be required as an expert witness, but the nurse can evaluate the likelihood of problems and help to avoid multiple, unnecessary medical experts involved, as she can determine the clinical areas which are likely to be addressed by the plaintiff. Clinically correct nursing expertise is essential for nursing malpractice issues. A nurse without the requisite clinical expertise can lose the case for whichever side she represents.
