Pierce County Sheriff's Department, Washington Sergeant, 1984-1997 Sergeant assigned as Field Force Supervisor.
Supervised a shift of Sheriff's Deputies in all aspects of police work. Reviewed and approved all police reports turned in during the assigned shift.
Took charge of crime scenes, and supervised these crime scenes until investigators arrived. Made decisions on calling out Detectives, Forensic Officers and other departmental personnel. Served in the capacity of department Watch Commander. Assignments also included piloting the department search and rescue helicopter, supervising the Courthouse Security Unit, and the Sheriff's Civil Unit.
Served as a member of the County Sheriff's Department Board of Professional Standards. This Board made decisions on all use of force incidents involving department members, including all officer involved shooting incidents. This board also assisted the Sheriff and his administration in developing and improving policies and procedures.
Served as the Sheriff's representative on the County Domestic Violence Committee, the County Courthouse Security Committee, and the County Mental Health Task Force. Also, served as the Leader of the first County Sheriff's Department Quality Circle.
Served as instructor in the following areas: Report writing, response to/and management of the crime scene, conducting the preliminary investigation, riot control, barricaded suspects, felony traffic stops, handling a major incident, arrest procedures, sheriff's civil duties, domestic violence investigation, service and enforcement of domestic violence protection orders, courtroom security, etc.
